This course is an entry-level qualification for those who want to enter the field of Education, Training and Development, specifically within the sub-field of Early Childhood Development (ECD). This qualification will enable you to facilitate the all-round development of young children in a manner that is sensitive to culture and individual needs (including special needs) and enable you to provide quality early childhood development services for children in a variety of contexts, including community-based services, ECD centres, at home and in institutions.
We are accredited by the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA) to offer the Level 5 Higher Certificate in ECD. Accreditation no. 23117
This training is a NQF Level 5 with 132 credits. It is a full qualification that includes fundamental, core and elective unit standards. The training comprises 19 modules. Each module is taught over 5 days as contact sessions, once a month.

These Exit Level Outcomes enable the student to:
- Explain and apply consistent theories of child development within the national curriculum framework
- Demonstrate the ability to implement a comprehensive safety and health policy in a holistic, inclusive and developmental appropriate way in association with families and the wider community
- Systematically observe the development of individual children to inform own practice and planning on an individual basis
- Establish and maintain efficient management systems that ensure the effective functioning of the ECD site/class
- Promote effective communication links between the ECD site, home and wider community
- Produce and respond to accessible written and oral communication and foster communication skills to operate more effectively in the workplace/ECD site. It will also contribute to more effective communication within the workplace environment.
