Who are we?
Caversham Education Institute or Caversham Institute (CI) as it is fondly known is passionate about offering world-class, in-service training for early childhood development teachers, practitioners and preschool owners.
We are an accredited, not-for-profit training provider established in 2006 and with a proud history of offering accessible, relevant, innovative and individual centered training.
Our public benefit status enables others to contribute financially and enables those from disadvantaged backgrounds to study and gain a life transforming qualification breaking the cycle of poverty.

What is Our Vision & What Do We Stand For?
Caversham Institute’s Ultimate Goal is to be the ‘go to’ quality ECD teacher training provider, by inspiring and professionalising ECD teachers to live and leave a lasting legacy.
We live our values that inform all that we plan, think and do.

Accountability
We believe that we are accountable to God, to ourselves and to others. We thus strive for excellence in financial management, in our relationships, lecturing, our programmes and the quality of delivery for young children & their families

Collaboration
We harness the power of working together sharing ideas, skills and knowledge; building one another up and celebrating successes not competition – together we can serve EDC best.

Lasting Legacy
Individuals are important, each with a past but living in a current reality and gendering hope for the future. Our courses offer opportunities to reflect on who we are as individuals in our personal and professional lives and to find pride in teaching our youngest citizens.
Who do we serve?
Caversham Institute is privileged to offer training to ECD teachers, both men and women from all races, age groups, religions and socio-economic backgrounds. These include ECD teachers and supervisors from pre-primary and preschools, teachers in classes attached to state schools and faith-based schools, and trainers and community coordinators.
Caversham Institute is passionate about honouring individuals and harnessing the uniqueness of each ECD teacher as a source of inspiration to the children they teach, their families, schools and the wider community.

Where can we be found?
Caversham Institute’s central office is housed in the historic, restored 1885 Manna House in Musgrave Road in Durban. The second floor of this beautiful building provides spacious offices from which the management and coordination of all CI’s operations emanate/occurs. The ground floor is flooded with light through the huge sash windows and has two large, airy training spaces, a sunny room for intimate meetings and a secure space from which digital programmes can be made.

Caversham Institute offers training in 8 centres, 5 in KwaZulu-Natal and 3 in the Western Cape; Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Kloof, Ballito, Kwambonambi, Cape Town Southern Suburbs, Cape Town Northern Suburbs and Stellenbosch. Traditionally, students attend training in one of the venues on alternate Saturdays, but as a result of Covid, CI extended training using a hybrid online model supplemented with Zoom contact sessions. This has been a very successful and exciting development, and the first Higher Certificates have been awarded to students as far afield as the UK and Zambia.
